Colour Grading Event with Charles Poynton at Blazing Griffin
Published on April 30, 2026 · Updated on April 30, 2026
If you work in post-production, colour science, colour grading, or anywhere along a digital cinema pipeline — this one's for you.
Canadian-based and esteemed Image & Colour Scientist, Charles Poynton, is on a mini tour that will see him in Glasgow, Scotland with his one-day masterclass. Charles is an independent researcher, SMPTE Fellow, and the person who literally chose 1080 image rows for HD standards — all of which makes this event unmissable. He earned his PhD in 2018 from Simon Fraser University with a dissertation entitled Colour Appearance Issues in Digital Video, HD/UHD, and D-cinema.
The masterclass will dig deep into why there are so many colourspaces in modern production pipelines, and how to navigate them confidently.
Key topics include:
✅ Colourspaces for cameras, grading, distribution & display
✅ Power function (gamma) and log encoding
✅ OpenEXR, CTL, ACES, and OpenColorIO
✅ HDR10, PQ, HLG, and SDR gamma standards
✅ The CIE chromaticity diagram (with the maths explained clearly!)
This event is a great fit for:
• Colourists & Colour Assistants
• DITs and Technical DoPs
• Studio Colour Scientists
• Post-Production Supervisors
• Data Management Technicians, Media Engineers, and Mastering Engineers
• Display Calibration Engineers
• Graphics Software Developers
